Jay Thompson, a shareholder with Murphy & Grantland, PA, was elected Secretary of the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association (SCDTAA) at its recent Annual Meeting in November. Jay previously served on the Board of Directors of the SCDTAA and will now serve as an officer and ascend to further leadership in the organization over the next several years. According to Jay, the SCDTAA has been an invaluable organization with the training and education provided to all levels of attorneys, as well as the networking opportunities within the legal community. Jay believes strongly in the value and importance of skilled leadership to inspire excellence and equip individuals and teams to maximize their potential. He aspires to use his position to strengthen the civil defense bar, to provide an informed voice while supporting the integrity of the judiciary, and to promote recruiting and retention of young attorneys in the defense bar.
Anthony Livoti, a Past President of the SCDTAA, currently serves on the Past President Advisory Committee. He was the 2018 recipient of the Fred Sievert award from DRI as Outstanding State and Local Defense Organization leader of the year. In his former role as President of the SCDTAA, Anthony began the Emerging Leaders Program, an initiative to engage with young lawyers in the association. Over the course of one to two years, Emerging Leaders participants l receive leadership training and participate in various activities of the SCDTAA such as their Trial Academy. Several graduates of the program a currently serving on the Board of Directors of the SCDTAA. Murphy & Grantland’s senior associate, Timothy Caiello, is presently participating in the Emerging Leaders Program as a future leader.
Shareholders Pete Farr and Rogers Harrell, III also serve on the Board of Directors of the SCDTAA. Founding Shareholder JR Murphy presented at the Annual Meeting, “Developing the Next Generation of Leaders”, providing practical application for firms to develop leaders within their firms. Murphy & Grantland, PA is passionate about leadership development and has a rich history with the SCDTAA.
