Thomas joined Murphy and Grantland after more than a decade clerking for Chief United States District Judge R. Bryan Harwell. Before clerking for Judge Harwell, Thomas was with a general practice firm in Florence, South Carolina, where he represented a wide variety of clients in both federal and state courts. Thomas brings a wealth of knowledge regarding federal practice and procedure having been involved in all aspects of federal court litigation for most of his 19 year career.
Thomas is rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell, the service’s highest possible rating. His current civil defense practice focuses on products and premises liability, professional liability, catastrophic injury, and insurance coverage matters.
Thomas attended the College of Charleston, graduating in 1999 with a B.A. in music performance, and earned his juris doctor from Samford University, Cumberland School of Law. In law school, Thomas served on the editorial board of the American Journal of Trial Advocacy, the nation’s oldest law review dedicated to the advancement of trial advocacy.
Thomas was born and raised in Florence, South Carolina, and now lives there with his wife and two sons. He was an Eagle Scout and is a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church.
