John Gardner is an associate at Murphy & Grantland.
John earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy & Religion from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. John is pursuing a Masters in Bioethics from the University of Pennsylvania and has studied at Yale University’s Sherwin B. Nuland Summer Institute for Bioethics. Before attending University of South Carolina for law school, he worked as an Alzheimer’s caregiver at StayWell Home Health Care.
During law school, John served as president of the Christian Legal Society, Publications Editor for the South Carolina Journal of International Law and Business, member of the Diversity and Inclusion Task Force, and was elected as a member of the Law School Honor Council. He also worked at the Richland County 5th Circuit Public Defender’s Office, General Counsel’s Office for the Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services (DAODAS), and the Greenville County 13th Circuit Solicitor’s Office. John received a CALI award for Judge Dennis Shedd’s 4th Circuit Practice class and was voted ‘Best Oral Argument’ by Judges A. Marvin Quattlebaum, Jr., Terry L. Wooten, and Dennis Shedd.
John is admitted to practice in South Carolina, the United States District Court of South Carolina, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
John and his wife, Leanne, are members of Riverside Community Church in Columbia. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, bagpiping, playing with his black lab Bean, and telling bad jokes.
