Catherine Hart is an associate attorney with Murphy & Grantland. Her practice covers a variety of insurance defense matters. Prior to joining Murphy & Grantland, Catherine served as a judicial law clerk to The Honorable Robert E. Hood of the Fifth Judicial Circuit in South Carolina.
A Sumter native and Gamecock at heart, Catherine earned her Bachelor’s Degree in History from the University of South Carolina, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She continued her education at the University of South Carolina School of Law where she was the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Law and Education, student member of the John Belton O’Neall Inn of Court, and served as the Vice President of Phi Delta Phi. She was also a mentor with the Constitutional Scholars Pipeline Program and completed a Judicial Observation Experience with The Honorable Alison Lee. During law school, Catherine clerked for Murphy & Grantland and the South Carolina Senate Judiciary where she assisted the Judicial Merit Selection Commission. Catherine is a member of the Richland County Bar, South Carolina Women Lawyers Association, and the American Bar Association.
Catherine invests in her community through her service as a Palmetto Girls State Counselor and as the Director of Standards and Ethics Advisor for the Beta Epsilon chapter of Alpha Delta Pi. She is also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary through the military service of her grandfather. She lives in Columbia with her husband, James, and their Springer Spaniel, Shug. She enjoys running, cooking and spending time at the beach.
