Adams Leads Murphy & Grantland Team in Walk for Life

October 28, 2016

alice-lori-walk-for-lifeMurphy & Grantland, P.A. attorney and breast cancer survivor, Alice Adams, sponsored a team which participated in the recently completed “2016 Palmetto Health Foundation’s Walk for Life and Famously Hot Pink Half Marathon”.  Adams serves as a member of the Walk for Life Committee, and a Co-Chair of the Palmetto Health Foundation Cancer Centers Board. Among all of the teams competing, her Murphy & Grantland team finished 18th, raising $2,150 in support of the Palmetto Health Breast Center.

“I support the Walk for Life because I am passionate about what Palmetto Health does to diagnose, treat, and support those in our community facing breast cancer”, said Adams.  “All money raised from this event stays right here in our community to help others facing a breast cancer diagnosis.  A week after completing six months of chemotherapy in September, 2011, I participated in my first Walk for Life with many of my Murphy & Grantland co-workers at my side.  I have participated every year since!  I can’t think of a better way to give back to the community who helped support me. In a nutshell, I serve on the Walk for Life Committee and participate in the Walk for Life because this work funds HEALTH and HOPE,” said Adams.

Held at Spirit Communications Park on Saturday, October 21st, this year’s event had over 7,000 participants, including over 1,500 runners and several thousand walkers. The finish line was inside the stadium, with spectators watching from the stands as runners and walkers completed the race.  To date, the event has raised over $614K in actual and ‘in-kind’ donations, all of which will be used within the Midlands community to help with the early diagnosis of breast cancer and the support for those already diagnosed with it.

“Alice is an exceptionally talented attorney and a remarkable person,” said Murphy & Grantland Managing Partner, J.R. Murphy.  “My own mother is a breast cancer survivor, so I know a bit of ordeal involved in fighting this disease.  Alice is a hero, and we’re so very proud to have her as a part of our firm.”

Balancing life as a wife, mother of three, and a busy attorney, Adams is active in a number Midlands community initiatives and already has the goal of participating in next year’s half marathon.
