S.C. Association of Justice to honor Columbia legal veteran this August

For the second year in a row, Murphy & Grantland co-founder John Grantland is being recognized for his contributions to the legal profession in the Palmetto State.

The South Carolina Association for Justice has named Grantland as the recipient of its 2017 Worthy Adversary Award. The award honors “a defense attorney who displays exemplary professionalism, honesty and ethical behavior.”

“Our rules of professional conduct are clear, laying out that attorneys are obligated to represent clients with zeal while remaining courteous and civil toward other lawyers,” said managing partner J.R. Murphy. “For more than 20 years, I’ve seen how John’s positive attitude and personable approach exemplify this and provide significant value to our clients.”

The 2017 Worthy Adversary Award will be presented to Grantland during the SCAJ’s annual convention in August on Hilton Head. In December of 2016, the Richland County Bar Association honored Grantland with its Matthew J. Perry, Jr. Civility Award.

John M. Grantland graduated from The Citadel and earned his law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law. He entered private practice in the mid-90s following active duty in the Marine Corps as a Judge Advocate and Defense Counsel at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, and the Marine Corps Air Station, Beaufort.
